Authorship and Contributorship

SFREMS

Overview

The Sapientia Filipina: Review of Education and Multidisciplinary Studies (SFREMS) is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity in scholarly authorship. Authorship should accurately reflect each individual's intellectual contribution to the research and publication process. All persons listed as authors must have made substantial scholarly contributions to the work and must accept public responsibility for its accuracy, originality, and integrity.

SFREMS encourages transparency in author contributions through the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) and recognizes that responsible authorship is fundamental to maintaining trust in scholarly communication across education and multidisciplinary research.

Authorship Criteria

To qualify for authorship, each listed author must satisfy all of the following criteria:

1. Substantial Scholarly Contribution

The individual has made significant intellectual contributions to one or more of the following:

Conceptualization of the study;

Research design;

Data acquisition or generation;

Data analysis or interpretation;

Development of theoretical or conceptual frameworks;

Methodological development;

Software or computational analysis, where applicable;

Creation of educational, scientific, or technical resources essential to the study.

Routine administrative support, funding acquisition alone, or general supervision does not by itself qualify an individual for authorship.

2. Manuscript Preparation

The individual has participated in:

Drafting the manuscript; or

Critically revising the manuscript for important intellectual content.

Authors should actively contribute to improving the scholarly quality and accuracy of the manuscript.

3. Final Approval

Each author must:

Review the complete manuscript;

Approve the final version prior to submission;

Approve any substantially revised version submitted during peer review;

Agree to publication if the manuscript is accepted.

4. Accountability

Each author accepts responsibility for:

The integrity of the research;

The accuracy of the reported findings;

Responding to questions regarding the work;

Cooperating with the Editorial Office should concerns arise regarding research integrity or publication ethics.

All authors share collective responsibility for the published work.

Contributor Roles (CRediT)

SFREMS encourages authors to include an Author Contributions Statement using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to promote transparency regarding individual contributions.

Contributor roles may include:

Conceptualization Methodology Software Validation Formal Analysis Investigation Resources Data Curation Writing – Original Draft Writing – Review & Editing Visualization Supervision Project Administration Funding Acquisition

Authors should ensure that the reported contributions accurately reflect each individual's participation in the research.

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author serves as the primary liaison between the authors and the Editorial Office throughout the editorial and publication process.

Responsibilities include:

Managing manuscript submission;

Coordinating communication with all co-authors;

Ensuring that all authors satisfy the journal's authorship criteria;

Confirming that all authors approve the submitted manuscript;

Coordinating revisions;

Providing accurate declarations regarding conflicts of interest, funding, ethics approval, and data availability;

Ensuring compliance with all journal policies.

The corresponding author acts on behalf of all co-authors during editorial processing.

Order of Authorship

The sequence of authors should accurately represent the relative scholarly contributions of each individual.

Authors are encouraged to:

Discuss authorship early in the research process;

Reassess author order as contributions evolve;

Reach mutual agreement before manuscript submission.

The corresponding author is responsible for confirming that:

All listed authors agree to the order of authorship;

No qualified contributor has been omitted;

No individual has been included without consent.

Acknowledgments

Individuals or organizations that contributed to the research but do not satisfy the criteria for authorship should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.

Examples include:

Administrative support;

Technical assistance;

Statistical consultation;

Language editing;

Research assistance;

Laboratory support;

Data collection assistance;

Institutional support;

Financial support;

General supervision.

Acknowledgment does not imply authorship or responsibility for the published work.

Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission will be considered only under exceptional circumstances.

Such requests must include:

A written explanation for the proposed change;

Written consent from all listed authors;

Written consent from any author being added or removed;

Any additional documentation requested by the Editorial Office.

The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to approve or deny requests following evaluation of the supporting information.

Authorship changes requested after publication may require publication of a formal correction.

Authorship Disputes

Authors are encouraged to resolve authorship disagreements before manuscript submission.

When disputes arise after submission, the journal may:

Request documentation describing individual contributions;

Suspend editorial processing while the matter is investigated;

Seek clarification from affiliated institutions where appropriate.

SFREMS does not adjudicate disputes regarding employment, institutional appointments, or contractual matters but may delay editorial action until authorship concerns have been satisfactorily resolved.

Unethical Authorship Practices

SFREMS does not tolerate unethical authorship practices, including but not limited to:

Honorary or Gift Authorship: Listing individuals as authors who have not made substantial scholarly contributions.

Ghost Authorship: Failure to acknowledge individuals who made significant intellectual contributions that qualify for authorship.

Purchased or Misrepresented Authorship: Buying, selling, trading, or falsely claiming authorship or contributorship.

Unauthorized Authorship: Including an individual as an author without their knowledge or consent.

Exclusion of Qualified Contributors: Deliberately omitting individuals who satisfy the journal's authorship criteria.

Such practices constitute publication misconduct and may result in editorial action.

Investigation of Authorship Concerns

Where authorship concerns arise, the Editorial Office may:

Request clarification from the authors;

Review contribution statements;

Seek supporting documentation;

Contact affiliated institutions where appropriate;

Suspend editorial processing while investigations are conducted.

If misconduct is confirmed, the journal may:

Reject the manuscript;

Publish corrections;

Retract published articles;

Notify affiliated institutions where appropriate.

Editorial actions are proportionate to the seriousness of the concern.

Responsibility for Research Integrity

All authors share collective responsibility for maintaining the integrity, originality, and ethical conduct of the research.

Authors are expected to cooperate fully with the journal regarding:

Questions about authorship;

Data accuracy;

Ethical compliance;

Conflicts of interest;

Publication misconduct investigations;

Post-publication corrections where necessary.

Authorship carries both scholarly credit and ethical responsibility.
