Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship and Contributorship

Overview

The Review of Economics, Accounting, Business, and Management Studies (REABMS) is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity in scholarly authorship. The journal recognizes authorship as both a credit for intellectual contribution and a responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, and ethical integrity of published research. Accordingly, all individuals listed as authors must have made substantial scholarly contributions to the work and must be willing to accept public responsibility for its content.

REABMS encourages responsible collaboration among researchers and supports transparent reporting of individual contributions through the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT). The journal does not permit honorary, gift, ghost, or purchased authorship and expects all contributors to adhere to internationally recognized standards of responsible research and publication.

Principles of Authorship

Authorship should accurately reflect the intellectual contributions of individuals who have significantly participated in the conception, execution, interpretation, and preparation of a scholarly work.

  • The designation of authorship carries both academic recognition and ethical responsibility. Every listed author shares responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the research and for cooperating with the journal should questions arise concerning the published work.
  • The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all authors meet the journal's authorship criteria and that no qualified contributor has been omitted or included inappropriately.

Authorship Criteria

To qualify for authorship, each listed author must satisfy all of the following criteria:

1. Substantial Scholarly Contribution

Significant intellectual contributions to one or more of the following:

  • Conceptualization or design of research
  • Development of questions/hypotheses
  • Methodology development
  • Data collection/acquisition
  • Data analysis or interpretation
  • Development of theoretical frameworks
  • Preparation of original content

2. Participation in Preparation

Active participation in:

  • Drafting substantial portions of the manuscript; or
  • Critically reviewing and revising for important intellectual content.
Editorial assistance limited to language editing or proofreading alone does not qualify.

3. Final Approval

Every author must:

  • Review the complete manuscript
  • Approve the final version before submission
  • Approve any revised versions during peer review
  • Agree to publication if accepted

4. Accountability

Each author agrees to:

  • Accept responsibility for their own contributions
  • Cooperate in resolving research integrity questions
  • Assist in addressing concerns relating to data, ethics, or publication integrity
Authors should have confidence in the integrity of contributions made by co-authors.

Contributor Roles (CRediT Taxonomy)

REABMS encourages authors to provide an Author Contributions Statement using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) to improve transparency regarding individual scholarly contributions. Roles may include:

Conceptualization Methodology Software Validation Formal Analysis Investigation Resources Data Curation Writing – Original Draft Writing – Review & Editing Visualization Supervision Project Administration Funding Acquisition

The Author Contributions Statement should accurately reflect each contributor's involvement and be approved by all listed authors before submission.

Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author serves as the primary representative of all co-authors. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing manuscript submission
  • Ensuring all authors satisfy authorship requirements
  • Obtaining approval from every co-author before submission
  • Coordinating communication with the Editorial Office
  • Managing revisions during peer review
  • Ensuring the accuracy of author information
  • Confirming all required declarations are completed
  • Communicating editorial decisions to all co-authors

The corresponding author acts on behalf of all authors but does not possess greater authorship rights than other contributors.

Order of Authorship

The sequence of authors should fairly represent relative scholarly contributions. Before submission, all authors should agree upon: the final list, the order, the corresponding author, and the Contributions Statement.

The journal does not determine authorship order, which remains the responsibility of the authors.

Acknowledgments

Contributors not qualifying for authorship should be recognized here (e.g., administrative support, technical assistance, statistical consultation, language editing, data collection, financial/institutional support, general supervision).

Individuals acknowledged should be informed. Acknowledgment does not imply authorship.

Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors post-submission are considered only under exceptional circumstances. Requests must include:

  • Written explanation for the change
  • Written consent from all listed authors
  • Written consent from any author being added/removed
  • Additional documentation as requested

The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to approve or decline changes. No changes are normally permitted post-publication.

Authorship Disputes

Teams are encouraged to resolve disagreements before submission. If disputes arise during consideration, the journal may:

  • Request documentation of roles
  • Request clarification from the corresponding author
  • Suspend editorial processing during investigation
  • Request assistance from affiliated institutions

The journal does not adjudicate institutional disputes but may defer decisions until resolved.

Unethical Authorship Practices

REABMS considers the following practices to be violations of publication ethics:

Honorary or Gift Authorship

Listing an individual as an author despite the absence of substantial scholarly contribution.

Ghost Authorship

Failing to acknowledge an individual who made substantial intellectual contributions that qualify for authorship.

Purchased / Misrepresented

Buying, selling, exchanging, or falsely claiming authorship positions or scholarly contributions.

Unauthorized Authorship

Including an individual's name as an author without that person's knowledge or consent.

Artificial Intelligence as an Author

Artificial intelligence tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot accept responsibility, meet authorship criteria, approve final manuscripts, disclose conflicts, or be accountable for integrity.

Authors who use AI-assisted tools remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the submitted work and should disclose substantial AI assistance in accordance with the journal's policy.

Responsibility for Research Integrity

All authors share collective responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the published research. Authors are expected to cooperate fully with the Editorial Office in responding to inquiries concerning: authorship, research data, ethical approvals, conflicts of interest, funding disclosures, research misconduct, and post-publication corrections.

Where concerns regarding authorship or research integrity arise after publication, the journal may issue corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions in accordance with its editorial policies.

Commitment & Alignment

The Review of Economics, Accounting, Business, and Management Studies (REABMS) is committed to fostering a culture of responsible authorship, transparent attribution of scholarly contributions, and ethical collaboration. By promoting clear authorship criteria, contributor transparency, and accountability throughout the publication process, the journal seeks to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record and ensure that every published article appropriately recognizes those who have made genuine intellectual contributions.
